Bangkok to Bhutan: Flights to Paro

Bangkok has the most flights to Bhutan of any city outside South Asia, on both Bhutanese airlines.

Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport is the main gateway to Bhutan for travellers from East Asia, Europe, Australia and the Americas. Both Bhutanese airlines fly from Bangkok to Paro: Drukair runs non-stop flights and one-stop flights via Guwahati or Bagdogra in India, and Bhutan Airlines runs a non-stop service.

Bhutan Airlines From Bangkok

Bhutan Airlines also flies between Bangkok and Paro, usually non-stop with an early-morning departure from Bangkok and an afternoon flight back. Check the days and times for your dates on bhutanairlines.bt, as its schedule changes by season.

Flight Time From Bangkok to Paro

The non-stop flight from Bangkok to Paro takes about 3 hours 15 minutes (Bangkok is one hour ahead of Bhutan). Flights with a stop in Guwahati or Bagdogra take about 4.5 hours.

Connecting in Bangkok

Many Bangkok–Paro flights leave between 5:00 and 7:30 in the morning, so most travellers arriving on a long-haul flight spend a night near Suvarnabhumi first. This also protects you if your long-haul flight is late. Your Bhutan flight is usually on a separate ticket, so the airline that brought you to Bangkok won't rebook you if you miss it.

On the way home, the afternoon flights from Paro arrive in Bangkok in the evening, in time for many overnight long-haul departures, but a night in Bangkok is the safer choice.

How to Book

Book directly with the airline: Drukair and Bhutan Airlines both sell tickets online, with online check-in and booking management. Book Bangkok–Paro and Paro–Bangkok on the same airline if you can, to make changes easier.

We don't book flights for our clients. Choose your flights first (or hold a booking), send us the dates, and we plan the tour around your arrival and departure in Paro. Our guide meets you at the airport.

Paro airport only operates in daylight and in good visibility (Department of Air Transport), so weather can delay flights, especially in the monsoon. Leave a buffer between your Bhutan flight and any long-haul connection, ideally a night.

Sort Out Your Visa and SDF Before You Fly

You cannot fly to Paro without a Bhutan visa approval. Everyone except Indian, Bangladeshi and Maldivian nationals needs one. The visa costs US$40 and is issued online once your trip and the Sustainable Development Fee (US$100 per person per night, set until 31 August 2027) are paid (Department of Tourism). If you travel with us, we apply for the visa and pay the SDF for you; you show the approval letter at check-in and receive the visa stamp on arrival in Paro.

International visitors must also have a licensed guide for the whole stay, so book your tour before your flights are final. See our Bhutan visa guide and Bhutan tours and holidays.
