A Bhutanese prayer rosary (chyem) has 108 beads and a larger guru bead. Press and hold the mala while you recite. Each bead moves past your thumb only when one full Om Mani Padme Hum has been said, so a round takes as long as it would with a real mala. Holding the space bar works too.
At the guru bead the mala is turned around rather than crossed. Each silver counter bead marks one mala; each gold bead marks ten.
Counts and your dedication are kept only in this browser. They are not sent anywhere and are not part of any national total. To add your recitations to Bhutan's official count, use the Yoeja prayer room at yoeja.com.
